Luka nuzzles the Pikachu back, and even gives one of his fuzzy little cheeks a smooch. Sugar, standing by her side, swishes her tail in annoyance. The Sylveon has a bit of a jealous streak, it seems.[break][break]

"You're so cuteeee!" Luka doesn't seem to realize she's adding fuel to the fire as she coos at Tofu and tickles him under the chin. "Such a baby! Fighting you should be, like, illegal!"[break][break]

There's a bit of truth to that. Admittedly, Luka feels a little awkward about fighting someone who's technically her boss. Can she get fired for beating him???[break][break]

Probably not, but the thought lodges itself in the back of her mind regardless. She continues petting Tofu as Sugar seethes, facing Ollie with a sheepish half-smile. "Uhmm...not really. But I think I should start getting a little better at it, right? S-so don't go easy on us, or anything! Sugar's a lot tougher than I am, promise!"

[break][break] Ollie has to bite the inside of his cheek to stop from rolling his eyes. Tofu could be so much sometimes.

[break][break] "Aw, have more confidence! Sugar looks real strong." Hands on his hips, he dimples a smile down at the Sylveon.

[break][break] That makes Tofu narrow his eyes, leaping off the girl's shoulder and back to his trainer's. Turns out that Sugar's not the only one with a jealousy streak.

[break][break] When the battle begins, they stand on opposite sides of the field. Tofu leaps to the center of the match, cheeks sparking.

[break][break] Immediately, a DISCHARGE sounds through the arena, zigzagging towards the Sylveon.

[break][break] Maybe this one with a little more oomph behind it than usual.

[break][break] Ollie doesn't seem to notice.

Hah! Sugar's eyes narrow smugly at the opposing Pikachu, and she wiggles her ribbons in a Sylveon's version of the middle finger. Take that, you chunky rat![break][break]

"Ehe...well, thank you! I-I have a lot of faith in her, really! It's just..." Just herself that she lacks confidence in. But if she wavers, she knows the connection between herself and Sugar will suffer. She toys with the hem of her sygna suit, a tactile reminder of their bond, and nods.[break][break]

"Okay. O-okay! Let's do this!"[break][break]

Just like Tofu, Sugar seems exceptionally riled up as they face off against each other. She yowls as sparking electricity courses throughout the field, and fires off her own dazzling gleam in retaliation. Racing around the field, she tries not to let her paws touch the ground as much as possible, but it seems impossible to avoid every branching stroke of lighting...

[break][break] The battle starts off fierce. The DAZZLING GLEAM is blinding, so much so that even Ollie has to throw up his own arm to wince back from it.

It’s silly, how such a simple phrase can make her happy. The smallest amount of kindness makes her smile blossom, and the lightest of pinks dusts her freckled cheeks.[break][break]

Now, they simply have to prove Ollie’s assessment correct. But that’s easier said than done! The disarming voice that echoes throughout the field is so loud that Luka has to cover her ears– an appropriate payback for Sugar’s attack.[break][break]

And Sugar herself winces, almost blown back by the sheer power of the sound waves blasted her way. But she manages to hold on, though she winces and falters for a moment too long.[break][break]

Despite the damage, the battle is far from over. Up against an opponent this huge, Sugar tries to use her smaller size to advantage, running circles around Tofu to throw off his rhythm. The field around them becomes covered in pink haze; her misty terrain hides her from view as she prepares her next strike.

[attr="class","textbody"] The attack succeeds as planned. Pink notes bubble through the air in a screeching display, giving enough time for his opponent to get distracted by it. It allows Tofu to get back to his senses at least, as he darts forwards in a beeline for their opponent.

[break][break] "You got this, bud!" Ollie cheers, hands over his ears.

[break][break] Tofu doesn't though. He skids to a stop as the area around them grows heavy with pink mist and he blinked, unsure where his opponent went.

[break][break] "Find her. Run her out! Use Discharge!"

[break][break] With a nod, the Pikachu obeys. Electricity sparks in her cheeks before light illuminates the arena with vicious light and explodes across the field.

The misty terrain comes at a cost: though it had provided Sugar some cover, it also allows the smaller Pikachu to run around in that same fog. "Don't let them catch you!" Luka calls back, though she herself can barely see the blurry shape of her Pokemon running around. "Ehe...it's like tag!"[break][break]

Sugar continues to kick up clouds of fog as she darts about the field, but the constant movement is causing it to clear. Tofu's attacks don't help much either, for another bout of lighting sparks up the field and sets it aglow. It feels like this battle is a real attack on the senses![break][break]

"Ah! Um! T-try, erm..." For a moment Luka flounders, unsure of what to do next. But while she hesitates, Sugar jumps into action. Light meets light as another dazzling gleam flashes around the arena, the two attacks clashing in a deadly mix of electricity and sparkles.

[attr="class","textbody"] Tag was a fun metaphor. It reminded Ollie of his childhood, running across grasses and farmland as his older brothers wrestled him into the ground. It was how he'd learned to be fast and strong. The weak didn't survive.

[break][break] Eventually, those electrical bolts found the source of the fog. After all, one could only hide for so long, especially as both pokemon darted around pink clouds and revealed what was needed to be shown.

[break][break] The DAZZLING GLEAM is blinding, making the Pikachu jerk back.

[break][break] "You got her! Don't falter, bud!"

[break][break] Electricity crackles in the form of a yellow sphere as the Pikachu uses ELECTRO BALL, aiming to raze the Sylveon down.

They're doing rather well, relatively speaking. It keeps both Luka and Sugar peppy, and makes the whole fight more fun overall. Even though they're taking things seriously, there's a much more lighthearted vibe. Perhaps it's thanks to Ollie and his cheerfulness?[break][break]

Sugar smiles and barks her understanding as she forms a shadow ball to compete with Tofu's electro ball. Her ribbons unfurl as she tosses the ball up and spikes it towards the oncoming Pikachu, just like a volleyball. Now, all that remains is to see who can hit first!

[attr="class","textbody"] The battle was nearing it's end, but Ollie couldn't exactly let things end like this without showcasing Tofu's super cool new ability to luka chêne.

[break][break] The two attacks collide into one another across the field, crashing and filling the air with smoke.

[break][break] Raising his arm into the air, the Head Ranger triggers dynamax. Energy glows powerfully around the Pikachu, imbuing him with light as he grows to a catastrophic size. Now, he easily towers over the Sylveon as he casts shadows around the arena.

[break][break] Electricity crackling in his cheeks, the G-MAX VOLT rocks powerfully down from the skies.

Both Luka and Sugar take a little step back as Tofu grows to the size of a skyscraper. They've seen gigantic Pokemon before, but they'd always been battling alongside others. What are they supposed to do alone against an opponent of this size?[break][break]

"H-hang in there, Sugar! It's so big now, it'll be easier to hit!"[break][break]

There's no way Tofu can avoid the psyshock that blasts his way. However, it's just as impossible for Sugar to dodge the max volt that hurtles down from the sky. She hisses as electricity crackles around her, shocking her and making her fur stand on edge. But even though the tides seem to be turning in Tofu's favor, this fight isn't over yet!

But Ollie doesn't know about her — he can barely remember it. "The League wants us to test it out. Think it's cool?"

It's the kindest way to put it, for now. From what she's heard the League has no idea what the long-term consequences of Dyanamaxing might be for a Pokemon, and that worries her. But the sheer power could be a useful tool...for both the League, and Rocket. It's a bit distressing to think of what the latter might do with it.[break][break]
